Who is this article for?
Your client is covered by the plan of someone else (spouse, parent), or has two insurance plans. This article explains how to fill in the TELUS Health eClaims section of the client record in these cases, so the insurer recognizes the client.
1The client is a dependant
When the client is not the policy holder, the member ID and the contract are those of the policy holder (the assured member):
- Choose the Insurance Company of the policy holder.
- Enter the policy holder's Insurance Company member ID and Insurance Company contract reference.
- In Relationship to the assured member, choose Spouse, Domestic partner, Child, Full time student, Part time student or Handicapped Dependent.
- Enter the first name, last name, date of birth and gender of the assured member. All four are required.
- If the insurer gave the client their own number, enter it in Covered person ID at the insurer (optional).
- Turn on the client's consent and save the record.

The client's own identity (first name, last name, date of birth, gender) must also be filled in, in the general information of the record.
Family Dependent: TELUS does not accept this relationship. If a client record still has it, Colib blocks the claim: choose another relationship (Child, Spouse, Handicapped Dependent, etc.).
2The client has a second plan (coordination of benefits)
Under Secondary insurance (coordination of benefits), fill in:
- Secondary insurance company — it must be different from the first one. Insurers that do not take part in TELUS Health eClaims are marked (not on eClaims): they can be entered here.
- Secondary insurance member ID (25 characters at most, dot included) and Secondary insurance contract reference.
- Relationship to the secondary assured member and, if the client is not the holder of this second plan, the first name, last name, date of birth and gender of its holder.
The claim is sent to the first insurer, with the second plan for information, so the first insurer can coordinate the benefits. Leave this block empty if the client has only one plan.
Good to know
- Back to policy holder — if you set the relationship back to Insured Member, the assured member's information is cleared.
- Which insurer first? — follow the usual coordination rules of the insurers (for example, the client's own plan before the spouse's plan). Ask the client if in doubt.
